INTERVIEW - Sherri Dupree of Eisley

Sherri Dupree of Eisley a small indie pop/rock band has done all of us at kidsindoubt and all you kids out there an honor of taking time away from her busy schedule to answer a few questions I’m pretty sure most people would be more than interested to know! So enough with the introductions, enjoy!

1 How old are you and could you tell us what your role is in Eisley?

SD: I’m the ripe old age of twenty-seven. I co-write all of Eisley’s songs with my sister Stacy (who is twenty-two), I sing and play guitar…I’m also the coffee, or boba tea finder on tour…because I’m good at directions :)

2 When did you realize you wanted to be a musician?

SD: When I was about 4 I knew I wanted to be either a). A singer or b). Own an ice cream parlor…So I guess I went with option ‘A’.

3 The first song you wrote? and what inspired it?

SD: I was probably about 13. I don’t remember how it went now but I remember it was about being yourself and not letting people make you their puppet. It had a Pinocchio analogy in there somewhere. I guess it was my angst-y teenage self starting to come out.

4 Your biggest inspiration?

SD: My husband.

5 Your favorite song to perform live?

SD: “I Could Be There For You”

6 If you had the opportunity to collaborate with any band/artist who would it be?

SD: Jeremy Enigk, Mute Math…and if we’re dreaming REALLY big…Paul McCartney.

7 Tour essentials?

SD: Graphic novels, a pair of Converse Chucks and Snackwells Devils Food cookies.

8 The funniest thing that has happened to you on tour?

SD: There is something funny happening everyday…On the last tour there was a night when Weston (my brother/drummer) decided to see if he could lift Garron (our cousin/bassist) from the bottom bunk, over his head, to the top bunk while Garron remained totally limp…this was all attempted while the Bandwagon was driving. I have it on video and we’re all laughing so hard at how much more difficult it was for him than he thought it was going to be.

9 The best present you’ve received on tour?

SD: Cupcakes and Starbucks Iced Via

10 The most unexpected fan request you’ve ever gotten?

SD: One girl asked me to give her a haircut after a show.

11 Band(s) you would like to tour with?

SD: Local Natives, Band of Horses, Death Cab For Cutie…Coldplay again :)

12 Is there a song out there that you wish you’d written? if so what is it?

SD: ‘In The Aeroplane Over The Sea’ by Neutral Milk Hotel

13 Your favorite band/artist you have toured with?

SD: My husband’s band Say Anything. I’m excited about our September tour because we’re touring with my younger sister Christie DuPree and one of my new, favorite bands, Marksmen.

14 Any advice you have for bands/artists?

SD: Don’t do it as a novelty…do it because you love it and can’t imagine doing anything else. Don’t give up and listen to your creative heart and always trust it over everything else.

15 What does Eisley mean to you personally and as a group?

SD: It means emotional release and creative expression, freedom and fulfillment, as well as the satisfaction of touching other peoples’ lives and making them feel something special.
