INTERVIEW - David Southern of Set The Sun

David Southern of Set The Sun has managed to set aside some time to let us know a little more about what him and his band are all about! The shockingly unsigned rock/screamo band is originally from Dallas and consists of 5 other members who are: Nate Anderson (Lead Vocalist), Arturo Pina (Guitar), Dakota Price (Vocals/Bass), Brandon Daniels (Keys/Synth) & Alex Summers (Drums). If you havent heard of these guys you have seriously been missing out! So check them out but more importantly check out the interview here:

1 Hello firstly could you start off by stating your name, age and role in the band?

David Southern, 19, Guitar/Clean Vocals

2 When did you guys start the band?and what made you decide that you wanted to start a band at all?

DS: Back in High School we decided to start a band because Alex and I were both really wanting to write our own music and be creative with it. Our parents both played music as we were growing up and we were really inspired by it.  After awhile, we ended up loving the sound of underground music and we finally got our full lineup together by February of 2010.

3 The first song you guys ever wrote (individually/together)?

DS: It was a song called “Buried Alive”.  We wrote it last minute due to winning a free recording we had won

4 Previous bands you have been part of?

DS: A couple of our members were in a band called “Yesterday Chases Tomorrow”, and our bassist was in a band called “Set Fire, Set Sail” both of which were local bands around the Dallas area.

5 The album you were addicted to/in love with whilst growing up?

DS: There were a lot of different albums I was really into growing up ranging from all the AC/DC albums to Taking Back Sunday. They always seem to change due to whats out at the moment though.

6 Favorite live performance memory?

DS: Probably the first huge festival we played in Dallas at Palladium Ballroom. It was a big rush for me personally

7 Funniest thing thats happened to you while performing?

DS: My microphone broke in the middle of our set at a show so I had to use Nate’s while he held it for me!

8 Musical inspiration?

DS: As a kid, I was always inspired by my dad playing music. He would play his keyboard almost every night. Guitarists like Angus Young and Jimmy Page made me want to pick up learning guitar in the first place.

9 What opportunities have you been faced with so far as a band? (tours, radio appearances etc..)

DS: Opportunities always seem to come up at random for us. But we just released our debut EP, so hopefully many more will come.  As far as tours, we are looking at the moment and getting everything ready for what we need. We really want to tour around the U.S. and always continue to grow as a band.

10 A Band which you would love to collaborate with one day?

DS: The Word Alive would be an awesome band to meet. They have basically the same set up as we do, style, and seem like a really fun band to be around.

11 A place you would love to perform in one day? (any place in the world)

DS: We always want to play new places. But warped tour has always been a goal for us from the start.

14 Do you guys have any special ritual you do before you perform?

DS: We usually stretch and try and get ourselves pumped up and focused as much as we can.

15 Biggest pet peeve whilst performing?

DS: No water on stage and technical difficulties!

16 What would your first reaction be if you came face to face with your idol? (state your idol first and why you idolize them)

DS: It would be really amazing to sit and talk music with some of our idols!  I would for sure be nervous myself but I would love it!

17 Advice for bands in your genre?

DS: Just have fun with it. Don’t join a band for the wrong reasons.
