INTERVIEW - Drew Langan (Stars In Stereo)

Recently KidsInDoubt had the opportunity to interview one of the guys from Stars In Stereo, an upcoming pop punk band who are currently on tour with The Used. To all of you who haven’t heard their stuff yet we thoroughly suggest that you do but first check out the interview:

Hi could you start by giving your name and role in the band?

DL: I’m Drew Langan, and I play drums.

How did the band come together and how did you individually become a part of the band?

DL: The first person I met out of everyone was Frogs. Through him, I met Justin and things kind of just fell into place from there. We’ve all always had such a connection musically as well as personally, so becoming this band was the obvious progression.

What’s the story behind your band name?

DL: While we all live in Los Angeles now, we all come from different parts of the country. We realized that if you connect the geographical dots, the shape made resembles a star. The name Stars In Stereo was suggested and it immediately felt right.

For those who haven’t heard of SinS yet describe the band’s music and style in 5 words?

DL: Unifying, ambitious, relatable, moving, timeless

If you weren’t in a band what do you think you’d be doing right now?

DL: I’ve always felt that having a backup plan essentially meant that I was planning to fail. That said, I’ve intentionally avoided the thought of failure and have always kept my focus on success in music. I guess that means I have no idea what I’d be doing, but it wouldn’t be pretty.

You guys are on tour right now, so what is the weirdest/funniest fan experience you’ve had so far?

DL: When we were in Long Island, Jordan shaved part of a girl’s head. It was awesome, I’m pretty sure there is video evidence somewhere.

Best reaction you’ve gotten from a fan/during a show?

DL: Unless we are going to take credit for the fight that broke out during our set in Philly, I’m going to have to go with the crowd surfers in Boston. We met some twins, brother and sister, before the show, and then I saw them both crowd surfing while we were playing! As a new band that a lot of these people haven’t heard of yet, it’s awesome to see something like that.

What band would you love to go on tour with?

DL: I’d love to your with the Foo Fighters. They are one of my favorite bands, as well as a great example of what we intend to achieve.

If you could perform in any place in the world right now where would it be?

DL: Red Rocks. It’s been a dream of mine for so many years, so the day we are able to perform there will be a huge milestone.

Favorite place you’ve performed in so far?

DL: My experience each night relies largely on the energy of the audience. Philadelphia and Providence have been two of the craziest crowds so far, so I remember those as the most fun.

If you had the opportunity to jam with anyone in the world, who would it be?

DL: Definitely John Mayer. He’s such a talented songwriter and guitar player. There are so many lessons to be learned from that guy.

What are your aspirations for the band?

DL: As a band, we want to connect to as many people as we possibly can through our music, and we want to do that on the largest scale possible. Our single “The Broken” is a bit of a mission statement for us, conveying the message that we should all see our problems and our differences not as something that alienates us, but as something that unifies us and brings us together.

Which Disney princess would you kill, fuck, marry?

DL: Jessica Rabbit for all three.

When do you guys think you’ll be releasing an album or EP?

DL: It’s scheduled for late summer/early fall right now. We may have something up our sleeve though. You’ll have to wait and see!

Promote the band.

DL: We are a band that has been working extremely hard and with a very specific intention, and I think that is evident in the music we have created and the live show we put on. It’s something that we are all very proud of. For a few downloads, check out www.starsinstereo.com or iTunes for “The Broken”. We are out on tour with the Used for a few more weeks and plan to be on the road for much longer than that. Tour dates are also available at starsinstereo.com

Anything else you’d like to say to your fans?

DL: Thank you! The response we are getting so early on is amazing. We want to meet as many people as we possibly can and express our gratitude for people being open to new music. So don’t hesitate to come talk to us!  We’ve got a long way to go and we look forward to sharing the ride with every single one of you.
